We only have 5 stalls for horses in our barn, so in order to make room for Tony to come home we needed to fix that. Which means we had to move the chicken coop out of the outside part of Frosty’s stall to make an extra stall for another horse. Taking the chicken coop apart wasn’t difficult, per se, other than when it was originally constructed it was made to be the Fort Knox of chicken enclosures. Everything was wired together, there was mesh with ply wood underneath, and then it was wired together even more. We had to then move it across the ranch in pieces, then clean out all the poop so Benny could move in safely. THERE WAS SO MUCH POOP.

Once all the poop was shoveled out, turns out there was mesh and plywood bricks underneath it all! (I’m not joking about the Fort Knox thing…) We lifted the plywood up and found not only the biggest scorpion I have ever seen in my life, there was also this little snakey friend. Turns out, he’s harmless.

We got that all situated, cleared out and the fence moved and Benny could move in! Eventually, after a little too much sun on Wowie’s comb, we got his home rebuilt over near the goats so he doesn’t feel so lonely anymore. We got all that done in a morning, and Tony came home that afternoon.
A week or so later, Benny got some shade put up above his new stall and he has happily relocated with no issue. Frosty may have had a panic attack, but a little banamine and some TLC made her right as rain. All in all, it’s worked out well so far and even our new (to us) trailer found it’s place making afternoon shade for Benny in his new stall.
